Feeling stuck is the feeling that there is no movement in life, where life starts to repeat itself, and we then start to lose our sense of meaning, energy and motivation.
Feeling stuck is a personal feeling and has nothing to do with whether we are successful compared to the status quo; but rather is a feeling we get when we compare to what we know is our potential, our calling, our meaning of life. Often in the eyes of others our life appears to be amazing but that itself can lead us to feeling worse. We feel those people don’t understand why we feel stuck and may in turn just think we are complaining or are being ungrateful about our situation.
Feeling stuck is a very necessary feeling as it makes sure we don’t stay in a place when staying in place doesn’t serve us anymore. How do you feel when you feel stuck? Is it uncomfortable? What do you feel in your body?
Feeling stuck is when the heart doesn’t feel alive – when it doesn’t have a strong pull into life. We need to stretch to create more space again in our life so that something new can come along. Stretch beyond the size of the problem.
In order to let this feeling move us forward and break free, it’s helpful to embrace and embody it fully. Agree to feel the frustration, the feeling of no meaning, and feel the need for change. Not to complain about it, not to try to solve it, but to make it so alive until it will move into longing for something more. It needs to be felt physically – more deeply at different levels. It’s about noticing moments when we don’t feel stuck and trying to see what gives us more energy – where does our energy drain us, and where does it not.
While embracing the feeling of being stuck, it is important to breathe, and listen to what we have to say about it. Focus on the feeling in our body, allowing it to be intense, and notice how we hold it in our body as tension – keeping that tension for a while. Then let go of the tension and experience what comes after. If we do it enough times, we will collect back the energy we need to break the routine of the day-to-day life that makes us feel stuck and it will enable us to start taking steps towards something new. Keep in mind that this will be a process.
Moving through this feeling into something new isn’t about finding solutions, but to feel who we are and what we want in life so deeply that this power will move us forward.
