A flow state is that special state that I find myself in when I feel truly connected and aligned within myself, and am able to simply be, yet find powerful forward momentum.
The last year or so has brought me more and more into a state of flow, which I’m truly grateful for. I don’t think I’ve ever found myself in this much alignment and connectivity to myself, my dreams, and what I really want in life. It’s a magical space to be in. Because I’ve been living this dream for awhile now, I would love to be able to share with you in the excitement of what it can be like, as I’d love more than anything for as many people as possible to also feel the possibilities that exist for you.
So here are a few of my thoughts on how to go about doing this.
Anchor Yourself
In order to find certainty in chaos, like the hyperdrive existence we’ve been living in during 2020, we need to be able to create our own sense of stability and structure. No one will do this for you, and we are all capable of finding ways to do this ourselves. What this involves for me, is having some sort of morning routine.
For me, that includes drinking a glass of water first, then writing a set of Morning Pages (see The Artist’s Way – a book by Julia Cameron that I highly recommend working your way through at some point), pulling tarot cards from a special deck, having a single pour over delicious coffee from freshly ground quality beans, and then writing out my daily priorities to make it all happen. Later on in the day, usually in the evenings if I’m not on the beach playing volleyball, I’ll also do a yoga session via my fave studio or stretches of some sort to feel back into my body (I have a tendency to spend a lot of time in my mind).
Each person will resonate with something different, as we are all unique, so I suggest picking a few things (and starting with one simple change that takes even 5 minutes a day), that are a fit for you. This will set the stage and a solid base to ground yourself each and every day.
Connect With Yourself
Once you’ve gone through your morning routine, you’ll likely be much more connected with yourself. When I tap into this flow state I can easily identify my days’ priorities without shifting any of my attention to less important tasks, emails or other distractions. It provides me with more focus and ability to make decisions and take action based on my own core values, and not what everyone else is telling me to do.
Find Clarity Amongst the Noise
What this leads to is more clarity. Once I have a better understanding of what those values are, it doesn’t matter what is happening in the external world. It won’t impact me in the same way. I find myself having a solid base to work from, and from that space is where clarity arises. I’ve already taken the time to process through the mess in my head – spewing out anything that I have to work through, which then leaves space for streamlined thoughts and focused productivity.
Listen to Your Intuition & Trust Yourself
From here, it’s a lot easier to listen to your intuition. First of all, you can hear it in the first place, without all of the white noise vying for your attention. When your intentions are clear and focused in your mind and body, you can trust yourself, and your intuition to lead you in the right direction. You will know the difference – ONLY you have all of the facts and the tiny details of the current situation you’re in.
Love vs. Fear
This all comes back around to something I spoke about recently, and a mantra that I now live by; To make choices and act out of love vs fear. When I’m not sure what my intuition is telling me, another check that I do once I’m feeling centered is whether or not I am making a choice for the right reasons – because of something I love and that I want to move towards. Something that is important to me and thus to the bigger picture of my values. And not due to fear or lack.
This world is filled with abundance, and we have everything we need within ourselves, if we are willing to believe that this is the case. I truly believe that, and would love to see a day where more and more of the world also feels the same.
Summary
To summarize, here’s how I tap into my own flow, and how you can do the same:
- Anchor Yourself
- Connect With Yourself
- Find Clarity Amongst the Noise
- Listen to Your Intuition & Trust Yourself
- Love vs. Fear
Now it’s your turn.
What’s one journey you’ve been on in your past where you felt that you were truly in flow. What did you do to find yourself in that state? How did that story end up for you? When making decisions were they rooted in fear or rooted in love? If you’re treading along a more difficult path right now, what is one thing you can do that will bring you one step closer back to yourself and your flow?
